Why Take Private Trumpet Lessons?
Private trumpet lessons are most beneficial for three types of students: (1) Students who are highly motivated and/or excel on the trumpet and who are looking to enrich their trumpet playing and perform at a competitive level; (2) Students who have never played the trumpet before and would like to learn how to play the trumpet; (3) Students who enjoy playing the trumpet, but are either struggling in band at school, are behind in band at school, or want to improve their playing. Some benefits of private trumpet lessons include, but are not limited to:
- Find fun and satisfaction through music
- Foster creativity
- Gain a sense of accomplishment
- Improve your knowledge and skills
- Learn responsibility and time management skills
- Think critically and clear up misconceptions
- Problem solve and overcome technical difficulties
- Learn how to practice and process new information
- Cope with frustrations and anxiety
- Develop focus and concentration
- Actively use both sides of the brain
- Experience to help guide you in your trumpet playing
My Rates and Services
Private Lesson Rates
I typically teach 30 min, 45 min (groups only), or 1 hour lessons once a week. Additional lessons can be scheduled, as time is available, to help prepare for an important audition or performance. Lessons are offered year round excluding holidays. My rates are as follows:
Payment by check is preferred. I charge an additional $5 for lessons in which I must travel to students’ homes to teach. Skype students are encouraged to discuss their preferred payment method with me before our first lesson. Studios and music stores interested in hiring me full-time or as an adjunct teacher should contact me for additional information.
Additional Services - Coaching
If you or your student is preparing for an audition or competition, I offer one complimentary coaching session per event. Additional sessions will be charged at the same rate that I charge for typical lessons.
Additional Services - Group Lessons
Group lessons are reserved for beginners, section work, and chamber ensembles. More specifically, if you are a parent of two young students interested in learning trumpet, it is more cost and time effective to teach both of them the same fundamental skills at the beginning of their musical journey, before moving to one-on-one lessons. If you are a music teacher or director, you may want your trumpet or brass section to work on specific skills or excerpts outside of the larger ensemble. Finally, if you or your student is a member of a chamber ensemble (such as a brass quintet, trumpet trio, or mixed instrumentation) you may want long-term coaching for your group.
Additional Services – Skype/Lessons Over the Internet
If you or your student is interested in lessons over Skype, Google+, FaceTime, or similar video-chat service, it must be discussed in detail at least one week prior to our first lesson. With the advances in technology and the quality of video and audio equipment available for the average consumer, lessons over the Internet can be just as effective as in-person lessons. The cons are lack of physical interaction (such as fixing hand positions or assessing equipment), inability to play side by side due to potential lag, and the reliability of hardware, software, or internet connection. The pros are the ability to have a lesson virtually anywhere at anytime, the ability to hold lessons when the teacher or student is ill or travelling, the ability to warm-up or practice immediately before or after the lesson, and the ability to easily record the lesson. The list goes on and on, and with the availability of technology it will only get easier for students to choose quality teachers from around the world without being hindered by money, time, or geographical location.
