Student Teaching - Fall 2015
Standard #9 - Outside Observation Reflection
During my student teaching placement, I was required to complete outside observations in which I observed teachers in a secondary area of music, in other schools, or of another discipline. For my first classroom observation I decided to observe a choir teacher within my school and assess the teacher's use of classroom management, vocal techniques, pacing, and other teaching strategies. It was very rewarding to observe in a choral setting, as most of my experience is in instrumental music. I obtained a perspective of teaching music regardless of the setting, be it choral, instrumental, or general music.

Standard #9 - Video Reflection
This video and reflection is an example of my ability to evaluate my own teaching in order to improve my practice and skills as an educator. In the document, I discuss many of my personal idiosyncrasies, things that went well and could have improved during the lesson, and how I have improved since my last video reflection.

MUSE 350 - Decision Point 3
Standard #9 - Self-evaluation
I have chosen my professional development log from Midwest 2014 to represent this standard. Music education conventions and clinics such as Midwest allow teachers to stay up-to-date on latest innovations repertoire, teaching strategies, and technology. Furthermore, they provide a place for teachers to share ideas with colleagues from all over the country (or even other countries in some cases). These conventions are excellent ways to make connections and network with fellow musicians and teachers, and help maintain a teacher's personal level of professionalism, relevance, and comprehensive musicianship.

MUSE 375 - Decision Point 2
Standard #9 - Self-evaluation
Each of the following two documents are reflections of my teachings in my MUSE 375 immersive learning course with the Youth Symphony Orchestra of East Central Indiana (YSOECI). I hope to use reflections such as these to further develop my skills as an educator. The original lesson plans for the following reflections can be found under my Artifacts and Rationales for Standard #7. The video is only of the rehearsal lesson, as I did not have a chance to record the warm-up lesson (which occurred on a different day).
